About

About MeaningBook

Plain-English explanations of new words and internet expressions, with examples and sources.

New words spread faster than dictionaries can follow. When you meet one in a caption, a comment or a group chat, you usually want three things: what it means, how people actually use it, and whether you can trust the explanation. MeaningBook is built to answer those questions in that order.

What every entry contains

  • A short answer at the top, so you get the meaning without scrolling.
  • Where you’ll see it — the settings and tone the word usually comes with, and separate senses when it has more than one.
  • Examples written for this site to show typical use. They are illustrations, not quotes from real people.
  • Sources you can open and check, numbered where they support a specific meaning.
  • Origin, but only when there is evidence for it. Otherwise the entry says “Origin not verified.” rather than guessing.

What you won’t find here

No popularity charts, “trending” badges or invented firsts. We don’t claim who coined a word or when it took off unless a source shows it. Each spelling or question form of a word leads to the same single entry.
